Council Agenda Item Cover
___________________________________________________________
MEETING DATE:
February 22, 2010
AGENDA ITEM TITLE:
Parkview Gardens Park Plan
AGENDA SECTION:
New Business
CAN THIS ITEM BE RESCHEDULED? :
Yes
BACKGROUND REVIEW:
City Council adopted the Park Master Plan in
January, 2009. The plan identified the redevelopment of the parks in the
Parkview Gardens neighborhood; Metcalfe, Ackert and Eastgate as a top priority.
H3 Studio provided consulting services to lead a public input process to create a
vision for the parks in the neighborhood to serve as catalysts for neighborhood
revitalization with funding provided by Washington University and Parkview
Gardens. The study looked beyond the existing parks and made
recommendations to open up Metcalfe as a destination park, to utilize a
redesigned Ackert Park to connect the east and west neighborhoods, and to
relocate Eastgate to two parks with residential fronting the park from all sides.
H3 Studios met with stakeholders, an on-going advisory committee and with the
client group over the past year. The Parks Commission voted unanimously in
recommending the adoption of this plan and moving forward on the next step in
the planning process.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval
