Council Agenda Item Cover <br />___________________________________________________________________ <br />MEETING DATE: <br /> June 7, 2010 <br />AGENDA ITEM TITLE: <br /> Approval of Police Department Edward Byrne Memorial <br />Justice Assistance Grant 2010 <br />AGENDA SECTION: <br /> City Manager Report <br />CAN THIS ITEM BE RESCHEDULED? : <br />No <br />BACKGROUND REVIEW: <br />The police department would like to submit a grant in <br />the amount of $30,460 for the replacement of eight laptop computers in police <br />vehicles and one desktop computer for the evidence room. The laptop computers <br />are located in the patrol vehicles and allow officers to complete reports from the <br />scene or other area of the community rather than being required to drive back to the <br />station to complete a report. This allows officers to be more visible in the community <br />and respond quicker to incidents. It also allows officers access to the criminal <br />database and ability to process vehicle and license plate checks from the laptops. <br />The desktop computer will replace and expand the current available computer in the <br />evidence room allowing for more efficient storing and accessing of data. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends Council approve the submittal of the <br />Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant 2010 for the purchase of <br />computer equipment in the amount of $30,460. <br /> <br />
