<br /> <br /> <br /> (CITY COUNCIL RETREAT REPORT) <br /> <br /> <br /> Retreat Summary <br /> <br /> On May 14 and 15, 2010, the University City City Council held a facilitated retreat <br /> at the Green Center. This report summarizes the conversations held at the <br /> retreat. <br /> <br /> The Council agreed to follow these operating norms during the retreat: <br /> <br /> • Listen with respect... <br /> ■ ...No interrupting <br /> • No talking over <br /> ■ Disagree agreeably <br /> • No personal attacks <br /> • Try things on for size <br /> • Stay on task <br /> • Value differences <br /> • Be candid and honest <br /> • Look for opportunities to agree <br /> • Strive for consensus <br /> • Enjoy! Have a good experience! <br /> <br /> <br /> Retreat Expectations <br /> <br /> Each member of the governing body and the staff that was present had an <br /> opportunity to share their expectations for the retreat. Those expectations <br /> included: <br /> <br /> • Come to agreement/consensus on focus areas and goals to be pieces of a <br /> long-range strategic plan <br /> • Set the foundation for the next two years <br /> • Identify bigger strategic goals that are broader and longer term <br /> • Walk out on the same page as we talk and visit with our neighbors; <br /> develop a tactical plan for achieving goals <br /> • Short-term process; Looking for financial stability <br /> • Identify long-term community goals <br /> • Look farther in the future; Deal with our fiscal instability; Create something <br /> better for the future <br /> • Be creative! <br /> • Learn to build consensus <br /> • Enable us to identify budgetary concepts that will help with our current <br /> dilemma <br /> • Long-term fiscal solvency is important for stability <br /> • Work together for consensus <br /> <br /> <br /> 31 Page <br />
