SESSION 1318

MINUTES OF THE UNIVERSITY CITY COUNCIL
November 8, 1982

At a regular meeting of the City Council of University City, held in the Assembly
Room of the City Hall on Monday, November 8, 1982, Mayor Joseph W. Mooney presided
and called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the Mayor, the follow-
ing members of the Council were present:
Mr. Lawrence Lieberman
Mr. Joseph L. Adams, Jr.
Mrs. Cynthia Metcalfe*
Mr. Marvin B. Levy
Mr. Paul E. Schoomer
Mrs. Betty L. Thompson
Also present were City Manager Frank Ollendorff and City Attorney Dennis F. Kay.

*Mrs. Metcalfe arrived at the meeting at 7:36 p.m.

MINUTES

Mr. Schoomer moved that the minutes of October 25, 1982 be approved as received.
Mr. Adams seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
CITIZEN COMMENTS - LEAF COLLECTION

Mrs. Ruth Mann, 7549 Teasdale, asked to address the Council. Mrs. Mann was very
concerned because of the large amount of leaves which were on the streets. She said
the leaf collector had come to her neighborhood before very many of the leaves had
fallen, and although she realized it would visit her street again this fall, she
thought it might be possible to put some extra workers on to try to collect the
enormous amount of leaves now on the street, or to borrow some workers from depart-
ments where the need was not so great.
Mr. Ollendorff noted that the schedules are rotated so that the early collection is
in a different area each year, and this year Mrs. Mann's neighborhood got the first
collection. He said there was no extra money in the budget for additional leaf
collection, but that he would look into this problem to see if there was anything
which could be done. There was discussion about the schedule, and Mr. Ollendorff
and several councilmembers noted that many people have raked leaves into the street
at a time when their area was not scheduled for collection, adding to the glut of
leaves already there.
Mrs. Thompson said the City Manager should look into all alternatives to find some
answers to this problem.
COUNCIL SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING

Mayor Mooney announced that the Council subcommittee charged with conducting a
beautification campaign in University City would hold an informal meeting following
the Council meeting. The chairman, Mr. Adams, said he had some materials which he
would like the Council and anyone else who was interested to see.
