Ms. Russell stated the District continues to leverage Smart Board technology with the <br />new construction in several buildings. Professional Development is offered to teachers <br />in the summer as well as in using the Smart Boards. <br /> <br />Academic Literacy was a new program introduced at University City High School last <br />year, in which any freshman student not enrolled in an honors language or composition <br />course took the academic literacy course which helped develop in them a love of <br />reading. The District also has the Washington U partnership, particularly with the <br />middle school, identifying what the students need; what families need; and what other <br />community schools look like. By next year every building in the District will be under <br />some kind of construction or renovation. Renovations begin this month on Flynn Park <br />and Jackson Park to add additions. Barbara Jordan School is to be complete by <br />February 2011. Pershing School will be demolished this summer, rebuilt over the next <br />year and reopen in 2012. Brittany Woods, with a new library, media addition, and a <br />sixth grade center will have a new classroom addition open in fall of next year. . <br /> <br />Ms. Russell stated the District is always striving to involve more parents in their child’s <br />education. Last spring the high school started a reflections mentoring program. The <br />District also has its collaboration with the City in serving on various committees. <br /> <br />Ms. Russell stated the District is pro-active in the budgeting process and came out with <br />a long term financial plan. <br /> <br />Lastly Ms. Russell spoke of some of the students’ achievements. She noted that the <br />graduating class of 2010 garnered over 3.2 million dollars in scholarships. <br /> <br />Boards and Commission reports <br />Mr. Glickert offered congratulations again to the CALOP Commission who received an <br />award given out at the East West Gateway Council meeting where 1,200 people were <br />in attendance. <br /> <br />M. UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />BILLS <br />1. <br />BILL 9095 - An ordinance amending Chapter 10.04 of the University City Municipal <br />Code, relating to motor vehicles and traffic generally, by repealing Section 10.04.060 <br />thereof, relating to temporary traffic regulations and administrative authority, and <br />enacting in lieu thereof a new section to be known as “Section 10.04.060 temporary <br />traffic regulations and administrative authority” thereby amending said section so as for <br />installation of speed limit signs and one-way designations during construction; <br />containing a saving clause and providing a penalty. <br /> <br />Mr. Glickert moved Bill 9095 for approval and was seconded by Mr. Crow. <br /> <br />Roll Call vote was: <br />AYES: Mr. Price, Ms. Ricci, Mr. Kraft, Mr. Crow, Mr. Glickert, Mr. Sharpe, and Mayor <br />Welsch <br />NAYS: none <br /> <br />Bill 9095 carried unanimously and became Ordinance 6837. <br /> <br /> <br /> 5 <br /> <br />
