The Police Department has been notified. The walk will consist of <br />individuals organizing against the violence in Lebanon. <br /> <br />Metro Grand Opening <br />We have not received any detail for the August 26. Metro <br />will arrange the ribbons across the tracks somewhere in the station so the train <br />breaks through the ribbon as it arrives at each station.They will provide us with <br /> <br />tickets for the first train - 10 at Big Bend and 5 at Forsyth. We will be partnering <br />with Washington University on the Forsyth station and inviting neighboring <br />businesses to participate in the events scheduled that day, as per the attached <br />letter. I will be out of town that weekend, so please work with the Mayor to <br />identify the individuals who will receive the 15 tickets. <br /> <br />The Big Read <br />Washington University is coordinatinga grant to participate in, an <br />initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to revitalize the role of <br />literature in American popular culture and bring the transformative power of <br /> <br />literature into the lives of itscitizens. This program will engage libraries and other <br /> <br />community and school partners across the countryto encourage citizens to read <br /> <br />for pleasure and enlightenment. Organizations participating in The BigRead will <br />be required to produce a community-wide read of a selected book, including <br />innovative programming. Events should promote active participation, involve the <br /> <br />local library where there is one, andoccur in a variety of locations. Approximately <br /> <br />50 organizations will be selected for programmingoccurring between January <br />2007 and June 2007. Retired University City school Principal Dr. Victoria <br />Gonzales-Rubio has volunteered to join Washington University’s effort and <br />coordinate with our community partners in the development and implementation <br />of programming.
