<br />Arts & Letters Commission Minutes <br /> : October 9, 2007 <br /> <br />Attending: Robert Bernstein Adelia Parker-Castro <br />Julie Bianchi Barbara Santoro <br />Marilyn Cathcart Calla Smorodin <br />Lisa Greening Jennifer Stokes <br />Claire Hyman Daniel Talonn <br /> Lisa Mandel <br /> Creda Stewart <br />Staff Liaison: Tom McCarthy <br />City Council Liaison: Stefany Brot <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:00 at Centennial Commons by Calla Smorodin. <br /> <br />Introductions <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Lisa M moved for approval of the September minutes, which was seconded, and the <br />motion passed. <br /> <br />Treasurer’s Report <br />No report was given. The report will be e-mailed to the Commission and will provide a <br />comparison of calendar years 2006 and 2007. There are missing bank statements, and <br />Lisa M recommends changing banks. Tom will look into passwords for online banking. <br />Tom will look into (1) any required IRS filings, including Form 990, (2) who makes any <br />such filings on behalf of the Commission and (3) whether the Commission is required to <br />file a year-end IRC Section 501(c)(3) report. <br /> <br />Council Liaison Report <br />Stefany Brot discussed potentially having a K-9 unit in U-City. The Loop Business <br />District has donated some funds toward such a unit. The Council is considering <br />alternatives for collecting outstanding trash bills. U-City was named as having one of the <br />10 greatest streets in the country – the whole length of the Loop. Stefany thanked <br />everyone who supported Prop U. The Council approved a grant application for the <br />Sutter-Meyer house. The City is looking to redevelop along Olive. <br /> <br />Committee Reports: <br /> <br />The Commission reviewed the calendar and provided comments. Discussion followed. <br />Stefany proposed that one or more individuals be responsible for carefully proofing the <br />calendar after the meeting. Barb, Calla, Lisa M., Adelia and Julie volunteered, and <br />comments are due back to Calla no later than the morning of October 15 so that the <br />comments can be turned to Monica by October 19. <br /> <br />
