ARTS AND LETTERS COMMISSION MINUTES -- MAY 13, 2008 MEETING CALLED TO ORDER at 7:07p.m. by Calla Smorodin, President. Those present as follows: Barbara Santoro Jennifer Stokes Marilyn Cathcart Dan Martin Lisa Greening Tom McCarthy Daniel Talon Calla Smorodin Julie Bianchi Regina Raineri Claire Hyman Adelia Parker-Castro Minutes reviewed and accepted. Treasurers Report – Lisa Greening Statement passed to members of the Commission. The Sculpture Series continue to hold the final fifty-dollar ($50) disbursements pending return of yard signs. Washington University has donated five hundred dollars ($500) for the Sculpture series. There is $100 outstanding for the Returning Artist Program. Lisa explains that the Darwin Portman Fund is used for the Returning Artist Program. Calla Smorodin, President then discussed the history of the Darwin Portman Fund and its disbursements. A report has been sent to members of the Commission via e-mail. Calla further pointed out that money for Movies, Sculpture Series, etc. should come through Tom (the University City Budget). Staff Liaison - Tom McCarthy The Regional Arts Commission sent $2,300 for next year’s Sculpture Series. The Mayor will notify the Commission when the selection process is complete for the new Council Liaison. After June 30, 2008, there will no longer be a marketing department for the city of University City. This information reported to Tom by Monica McFee. Therefore, the Arts and Letters Commission needs a standard list of Activities; each commission, each city department must now do their own marketing. COMMITTEE REPORTS Starlight Movie Series – Chairperson, Jennifer Stokes Presented a flyer for the 2008 season to the Commission. (See attached document).
