<br />ARTS AND LETTERS COMMISSION MINUTES – Mar. 10, 2009 <br />MEETING CALLED TO ORDER at 7:05 p.m. <br />by Barbara Santoro, President. <br /> <br />Commissioners Present: Excused Absences: <br />Regina Raineri Kim Chilton <br />Trish Hayes Adelia Parker-Castro <br />Barbara Santoro Jennifer Stokes <br />Julie Bianchi <br />Calla Smorodin Resigned: <br />Marilyn Cathcart Daniel Talonn <br />Claire Hyman <br />Dan Martin Others Present: <br />Lisa Greening Tom McCarthy, Liaison, City <br /> <br />January ’09 Meeting Minutes <br />Minutes were approved per revisions. <br />Motion to approve by Claire <br />seconded by Julie <br /> <br />Treasurers Report – Lisa Greening <br />Lisa Greening discussed and the distributed financial statement for the previous month. She informed us that <br />the check for Best in Show of the Sculpture Series was not deposited yet – it does not show up on the Sculpture <br />Series Funds. Barbara presented a donation check for $30.00 from Ms. Ruth P. Steele. Regina will issue a <br />Thank You letter on behave of the Commission. Lisa remind us that Commissioners are strongly encouraged to <br />donate funds to this Commission. <br /> <br />Councilmember’s Report – Terry Crow <br /> <br /> <br />Terry thanked the Commission for the work we do. <br /> <br /> <br />Flood update – a decision is in the works to buy homes on Wilson Ave. that were damaged by the flood <br />in September. $450,000 in wages and overtime were used to clean up. Feds will buy 3 to 1 (U City) <br />homes damaged. It will be a case-by-case basis, but some homes with less damage and are still deemed <br />safe, will be moved to City-owned sites. <br /> <br /> <br />The City is trying very hard to preserve serves to its residents, leaf pick-up, etc. <br /> <br /> <br />Property tax & sales tax increases will be in proposed in August. <br /> <br /> <br />Gallop applications are being accepted. <br /> <br />Staff Liaison’s Report – Tom McCarthy <br /> <br /> <br />Before Tom orders a plaque for the sculpture in front of Cent. Comm., he discussed pricing with the <br />Commission. Dan has offered to contact Arch Engraving as a less expensive alternative. <br /> <br /> <br />Budget is the same as last year for the A & L Commission. <br /> <br /> <br />Signs for the sculptures have been ordered. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE REPORTS <br />Sculpture Series – Julie Bianchi, Tom McCarthy <br /> <br /> <br />Julie gave descriptions of all of the works presented by the Wash U students at the sculpture series <br />show. She handed out the proposals prepared by the students as well. <br /> <br /> <br />Press release post cards are ready for distribution. Map & press release will be sent to the high school, <br />library and Cent. Comm. (50), Wash U(500), RAC (50). <br /> <br /> <br />Julie clarified that the Darwin Portman Award is $100.00 <br /> <br /> <br />Blue Ribbon Panel – Carol Portman will be asked to be on the panel. Calla will extend the invitation to <br />her family. <br /> <br />
