The City has 17% in reserve the Council is trying not to touch, but has to spend one million to buy out the
th
Wilson Avenue (flood plain) homes. The Community Block Grant Hearing went well on June 7. The Council is
continuing to push forward on the Kingsland Walk project.
Photo Show: Barbara Santoro reported that the calls for entry have been electronically posted. U. City in Bloom is
interested in floral photos portraying its work that it can use for the “America in Bloom” competition.
Starlight Concert Series: Kim Chilton distributed a concert sign-up work sheet for Commissioners. She discussed
security concerns due to lack of lighting at the back playground side of the park. Tom McCarthy responded that
the police would be amply present, and that the Ballpark field lights would be illuminated and should provide
plenty of light, particularly considering the early start-to-finish time of the concerts.
Festival U. City: Julie Bianchi gave a walking tour of the Festival site to give the Commissioners a visual overview
of the Festival layout. She asked for and was granted permission to spend $25 additional dollars for Art U. Do
supplies should the material tentatively promised by Blick Art Materials fail to materialize. Tom McCarthy
reported that after 3 bids, the lowest priced identification signs had been ordered for the Art U. See and Art U.
Buy artists and a CD featuring their collective work had been broadcast on channel 10. He also reported that four
2’X10’ advertizing banners for the Festival had been strategically placed around the city. Adelia Parker-Castro
reported that the Art U. Buy information packets had been sent to the participating artists.
New Business: Tom McCarthy proposed that Stefania Ford’s nude statue from the 2009 Sculpture Series be given
a home in the new bird sanctuary being built behind Centennial Commons. (The statue has been languishing
unappreciated in a workshop of Sam Fox School of Art and Design.) Adelia Parker Castro moved that Tom
McCarthy should approach Ms. Ford concerning a purchase price for the statue. Claire Medol Hyman seconded
the motion. The motion passed.
Motion to adjourn: at 8:27 p.m. by Adelia Parker-Castro, seconded by Melcine Henderson. The motion passed.
