Meeting Minutes, June 21, 2005

Historic Preservation Commission

Present: Susan Bowser, Chairman
Ron Heise
Peter Steuterman
Walter Daniels
John McDonnell
Steve Palley
Jen Jensen
Lehman Walker, Staff Liaison
Greg Polanik, Architect for Sutter-Meyer House
Elsie Glickert, Guest

1.Meeting commenced at 7:30pm.

2.Minutes of the previous meeting were revised to reflect that the entire concept for
the Church of Scientology was in a “preliminary stage”. The meeting was to
provide preliminary approval to increase building space on the property. This
was moved by Jen Jensen and seconded by John McDonnell. Motion carried.

3.Discussion ensued regarding the ultimate use of the Sutter-Meyer House and
whether or not the City of University City will sell it or retain ownership. Elsie
Glickert provided some additional information with respect to the Sutter-Meyer
House. The Historic Preservation Commission discussed whether the City should
plan on selling the Sutter-Meyer House before or after rehabilitating the house.
The HPC recommendation is to do at least the work required to bring the house
up to meet the City’s code requirements [page 1 and page 2 of the preliminary
scope of work]. This was moved by Peter Steuterman and seconded by Walter
Daniels. The motion carried. The architect working on this project was requested
to determine the cost of doing the recommended work. It was requested that the
architect submit this financial information for the July meeting.

4.The meeting adjourned at 8:50pm.
