Director, library staff
The meeting of the University City Public Library board was called to order at S:15p.m.,
12/10/2008 by David Stokes, President.
Minutes
The minutes from the meeting of November 12, 2008 were approved.
Correspondence
No correspondence was received. Linda wrote a letter to the UCity Schools Superintendent with a suggestion that the schools offer access to the schools' PCs after school hours. The library
has
been filling a need for after-hours PC access for students for years.
Friends' report
Don Marsh is the program speaker Feb 2nd 2009 Harper Barnes is the program speaker in March
2009. The Friends are working to increase the membership and donations to the Society. They will solicit new members from the membership lists of the Historical Society, UCity in Bloom
and
various donor lists of elected officials. Linda is drafting a letter for the Friends to utilize as well.
They discussed the effectiveness of putting fliers in the books on hold section. The elevator company came to the library and we were charged $800 for the after hours service call. The elevator company did not call the
library to confirm that there was an elevator incident. The library was open during the
prank call incident and if the elevator company had called, a library associate could have
checked the elevator and notified the elevator company that no one was stuck in the
elevator.
Linda had a conversation with the elevator company to negotiate the service call cost to
$400 since the elevator company didn't call the library to confirm the incident. The
library board concurs that we should only pay $400. Linda has also requested a physical
copy of the elevator service calls procedures from the company.
b. We discussed the July 4th holiday and which days the library should close. Most libraries
are closed on Sunday and would save money by closing on Sunday, July 5.
