Director, library staff
The meeting of the University City Public Library board was called to order at 5:28p.m.,
2/11/2009 by David Stokes, President.
Minutes
The minutes from the meeting of January 14, 2008 were approved.
Correspondence
None.
Friends' report
The Friends will stage a membership drive table in the Library on Sunday, February 15. They are
planning a trivia night for May 6, 2009.
Council liaison Councilman Price was not present.
Librarian's report
a. Circulation continues to increase as does computer usage.
b. Linda discussed the library's employment of off duty UCity police officers for security in the late afternoon and evening. There was some concern about a shift schedule change
possibly impacting the officer's availability but Chief Adams thinks that instead it may
make even more officers available. The library pays $25lhour and benefits from the
officers monitoring behavior throughout the building, thus freeing the staff.
c. It was noted that Webster Groves voters passed a tax proposal for library renovations. In
the past decade and a half, nine of the consortium libraries have made improvements in facilities and programs.
d. Linda and Christa visited the state capitol and visited with all but one of our city's
representatives. The governor's budget proposal maintains funding for MORENet.
e. The library is going to submit a grant request to fund a telephone survey of our patrons.
Questions will need to be developed.
f. Linda provided a preliminary draft budget for next year but several items need more information and the board must decide what capital improvements to fund and whether to
grant pay increases. The reported income from property tax payments stayed stable.
g. The Big Read program discussion of "To Kill a Mockingbird" was very well attended.
Also the Don Marsh Friends program was very interactive and interesting. Attendance at
the `lunch and learn' discussion on "Hamlet" was good.
