RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, voters in St. Louis City and County will vote on November 4 on the one- <br />quarter cent transportation general sales tax to support the expansion of MetroLink; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, MetroLink currently carries more than 41,000 passengers per day and <br />provides an integral service for the Region, and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in order for the St. Louis Region to remain internationally competitive <br />it must have an efficient public transportation system; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, service to Brentwood, Clayton, Maplewood, Richmond Heights, <br />Shrewsbury, University City, and South County would be the first step to further expansion <br />to North County, South County and West County as part of the Cross County Connection; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the extension will reinforce Downtown St. Louis and Clayton as the <br />Region's top business centers and give notable mobility benefits to residents of both the City <br />and the County; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, light rail encourages the use of existing infrastructure and revitalizes <br />neighborhoods; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, light rail promotes clean air and reduces traffic congestion; and, <br /> <br /> THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of <br />University City endorse Proposition M and call upon citizens in St. Louis City and County to <br />examine MetroLink and its benefits to the St. Louis Region and vote 'yes' for the one-quarter <br />cent general sales tax on November 4, 1997. <br /> <br /> ADOPTED October 13, 1,997. <br /> <br />ATTEST:..". <br /> <br /> <br />
