Regular Meeting of the Park Commission
City of University City
July 28, 2009
Centennial Commons

President Livingston Sykes called the meeting to order at 6:33p.m. Others present were:

Robert Wagner Lynda Euell-Taylor, Recreation Superintendent
Karen Palmer Rivian Robinson, Department Staff Liaison
Karen Dille Tom McCarthy, Asst. Rec. Superintendent
Jerry Fitch
John Sweeney
Mary Hart
Linda Peoples
Absent:
Caryn St. Clair

Disposition of Minutes from June 23, 2009
June minutes reviewed. Motion made and seconded to approve minutes with corrections. All in agreement.
President Sykes approved minutes.

Citizen’s Comments on items not on Agenda
No citizens present.

Council Liaison Report

Mr. Wagner gave the following report. Report submitted. Council appointed Gerald Greiman to the U. City
Civil Service Board. Council approved an amount of $48,500 for golf cart paths for Ruth Park Golf Course.
Council presented Hero Award to Even Hunter, a U. City resident. Council discussed sponsoring a Boards and
Commission Appreciation Event.

Department Report
Ms. Euell-Taylor reported on:

Fall 2009 Recreation Guide is in print as of this date

Program Fees- Summer Camp-late Fees may be assessed for parents enrolling after a certain
date. This is to encourage parents to enroll early, to be able to enroll for multiple sessions
before camp begins and pay in installments. This helps camp solidify employment for correct
number of camp counselors for good counselor to camper ratio. Summer Camp late
th
registration- Suggestion that fees for first year should be after May 15 even if enrollment
starts earlier because many parents don’t think about camp fees until end of school year.
Comment that fee amount is a bit high. Suggestion that advertising should be heavy so that
parents are aware they have longer time to register children. Suggestion to just have cut off
date as opposed to late fee (with no exceptions) so as not to lose as many enrollees. Ms.
stth
Euell-Taylor would like to publicize May 1 thru the 15 as late registration with emphasis
on no exceptions. Flyers and memos to go out at least twice to all University City schools
(public and private). Final amended motion made to drop late fee and extend cut off date to
5/15/09 with no exceptions and to accept all other fees as written. Motion seconded. 6
members vote in favor.

No Flynn Park for summer camp next year due to construction.

Individual Park Reports
