Ms. Fuller indicated UCIB was invited to apply for a grant to implement the bird
sanctuary which will include both a garden and water feature. Pluses for this project include its urban location
within University City’s largest park and incorporation into the summer camp youth program housed at Centennial
Commons. Mr. McCarthy spoke of the Bird Sanctuary logistics (visible through the windows by Centennial
Commons fitness area; water feature will back to soccer facility with water from soccer roof run-off providing water
to the garden and the soccer facility retaining wall will have night illumination installed to highlight this area). Ms.
Palmer stated a grant was submitted to the Boeing Corporation for benches, water feature and signage. Mr.
Sweeney inquired about the completion date. Ms. Fuller stated a year to 18 months before completion. Mr.
Winker indicated the City contributed $1,000 in seed money along with labor provided by park maintenance staff.
Department Report

Junior/Senior Rates – Ruth Park Golf Course: Doug Castellari, Golf Manager of Ruth Park Golf Course gave an
overview of staff’s request to implement junior and senior rates at the golf course; indicating implementation
would bring our course more incompliance with other golfing facilities, and possibly increase rounds by 15 to
20%. Mr. Field agrees with the rate change and indicated it may require an adjustment to our regular rates. It was
suggested these rates be implemented on a trial basis. Mr. Sweeney asked how long for the trial basis? Mr. Field
suggested to the end of fiscal year 2011. Ms. St. Clair moved to accept a trial run of the proposed junior/senior
rates until the end of fiscal year 2011, Ms. Dille seconded.
