<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Regular Meeting of the Park Commission <br />City of University City <br />February 22, 2011 <br />Centennial Commons, 7210 Olive Blvd. <br />President John Sweeney called the meeting to order at 6:32 pm. Other members present were: <br />Karen Dille Ewald Winker, Interim Director <br />William Field Lynda Euell-Taylor, Recreation Superintendent <br />Jerry Fitch Lynn Ricci, Council Liaison (arrived at 6:50 pm) <br />Karen Palmer <br />Linda Peoples <br />Caryn St. Clair (arrived at 6:34 pm) <br />Excused Absence: Gwendolyn Gaines-Beckwith <br />Disposition of Minutes from January 25, 2011 <br />Minutes reviewed. Ms. Dille moved to approve minutes with correction, Ms. Peoples seconded. Vote taken: all <br />approved. <br />Citizen’s comments on items not on Agenda <br />University City Bird Sanctuary: Helen Fuller of U City in Bloom (UCIB) and Tom McCarthy, Staff Liaison to UCIB <br />gave an overview of this project. Ms. Fuller indicated UCIB was invited to apply for a grant to implement the bird <br />sanctuary which will include both a garden and water feature. Pluses for this project include its urban location <br />within University City’s largest park and incorporation into the summer camp youth program housed at Centennial <br />Commons. Mr. McCarthy spoke of the Bird Sanctuary logistics (visible through the windows by Centennial <br />Commons fitness area; water feature will back to soccer facility with water from soccer roof run-off providing water <br />to the garden and the soccer facility retaining wall will have night illumination installed to highlight this area). Ms. <br />Palmer stated a grant was submitted to the Boeing Corporation for benches, water feature and signage. Mr. <br />Sweeney inquired about the completion date. Ms. Fuller stated a year to 18 months before completion. Mr. <br />Winker indicated the City contributed $1,000 in seed money along with labor provided by park maintenance staff. <br />Department Report <br /> <br />Junior/Senior Rates – Ruth Park Golf Course: Doug Castellari, Golf Manager of Ruth Park Golf Course gave an <br />overview of staff’s request to implement junior and senior rates at the golf course; indicating implementation <br />would bring our course more incompliance with other golfing facilities, and possibly increase rounds by 15 to <br />20%. Mr. Field agrees with the rate change and indicated it may require an adjustment to our regular rates. It was <br />suggested these rates be implemented on a trial basis. Mr. Sweeney asked how long for the trial basis? Mr. Field <br />suggested to the end of fiscal year 2011. Ms. St. Clair moved to accept a trial run of the proposed junior/senior <br />rates until the end of fiscal year 2011, Ms. Dille seconded. Vote taken: all approved. <br /> <br />Ms. Ricci arrived at 6:50 pm. <br /> <br /> <br />
