McCauley (excused)

Councilmember Present:

Mayor Janet Majerus

Staff Present: Sarah Elwood, Zoning Administrator

Chairman Hamilton called the meeting to order at 7:34 p.m. He noted that the
Commission was honored by the presence of Mayor Majerus as that evening's liaison to
Commission from the City Council. Chairman Hamilton also noted that the Commission
had recently received a communication from the Mayor stating that Councilmember
Joseph L. Adams, Jr. had been appointed as liaison to the Plan Commission for a
two-year term.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Ms. Schuman questioned the statement by Mr. Smith on page 4, 2nd paragraph, lines 4
through 6 of the minutes of May 28, 1986, regarding the McKnight Village Partnership
requests. She requested a response by Mr. Goldman at the next meeting regarding the
statement's validity.

Mr. Rice moved that the minutes of the May 28, 1986 meeting be approved as corrected.
Ms. Schuman seconded the motion which passed by a vote of 4-0.

APPLICATION FOR CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT--6702 VERNON AVENUE

Chairman Hamilton asked Mr. Ben Berger to explain his request for a conditional use
permit in order to use the property at 6702 Vernon Avenue for outdoor storage and
parking of motor vehicles. Mr. Berger stated that the property in question, the
site of a burned factory, extends from Vernon Avenue south to the stone retaining wall
where the school district's buses are kept. Only a portion of this property is paved
for a parking lot, and it is this paved area for which he makes appliction for a
parking lot. He requests approval for the lot as an interim use until the property is
sold because various people in the neighborhood have asked if they could park there or
lease space to park there. He stated that his intention to use this area as a parking
lot is basically a service for the neighborhood; the money he receives for leasing
parking space on the site helps pay for the maintenance of and taxes on the property.
