4. No Parking Signs on the north side of University Dr near Jackson Ave.

On October 9, 2002, the Commission voted unanimously to remove the no parking signs on the
north side of University Drive from Jackson Avenue to West Point Ct.

However, the residents of University Drive do not support this recommendation. Please review
letters attached.

Therefore, be prepared to addressed this issue again in this Meeting due to City Manager’s
request.

5. More safety for Mooney Park

On October 9, 2002, the Commission voted for the Engineering Department to study the
feasibility to remove the stop sign for Jackson at Cornell (for southbound traffic) and place it at
Amherst. The stop sign for Jackson at Cornell (heading northbound) must stay. Please see
Traffic Request Form dated August 12, 2002.

The Engineering Department met with the County Traffic Engineers and the following comments
were offered:

1.For the crosswalk at Jackson and Cornell: we cannot remove the stop sign southbound
and leave the stop sign northbound. We should be consistent. It would confuse the
drivers and the pedestrians and be very unusual.

2.Speeding should be reported to the Police Department to enforce the speed limit.

It is the recommendation of the Engineering Department to deny the feasibility presented.

Please call Sandy Weinberg at 862-6767, ext. 260, and advise her if you will not be attending
the meeting.

Cc: Shelley Welsch, Council Liaison
Larry Lieberman, Council Member
Evelyn Shields-Benford, Director of Public Works
Lee Payne, Police Chief
Andrea Riganti, Planner

3
V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\agenda\2003\Agenda 02-12-03.doc
