Police accident reports were
mailed to you on July, 2004.

A Three or Four-Way stop intersection may be justified if five (5) or more “right and left” turn collisions
(or right angle collisions) have occurred in a 12 month period.

From November 2000 to date, there have been a total of ten (10) auto accident police reports for this
intersection. During the last 12 months, four “right and left” turn collisions have occurred.

It is the recommendation of the Engineering Division to deny the request for the intersection at
Washington and Kingsland to be a “Four Way Stop” instead of a two way stop since it does not
meet the criteria.

2.Intersection for Kingsland and Loop South

In June 2004 representatives of the University City East Citizen Action Committee requested that the
Traffic Commissioners study the intersection of Kingsland and Loop South during the summer months.

At the meeting, Sgt. S. Whitley from the Police Department recommended marking the pavement
between the grass median and the Municipal Parking Lot #5 with yellow stripes; and installing a Yield
sign for southbound traffic on Kingsland at Loop South. The Engineering Division agreed with Sgt.
Whitley’s recommendations.

1
V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\agenda\2004\Agenda 9-8-04.doc
