Page 2
Minutes November 12, 2003
Traffic Commission Meeting

2.Stop Signs and Crosswalk for North and South at the limits with City of Clayton.

Representing this issue were Loy and Peg Ledbetter (505 North & South Rd, Apt. 3C).

Mr. Ledbetter stated his opposition to the request. He stated the reasons presented before
based on the traffic study where stop signs are not supposed to be used as speed deter.
Besides, additional stop signs could increase the noise and pollution on the street. North &
South is a high point on the limits with Clayton and University City; could be dangerous to
have to stop on a hill especially during winter time. At that location, a stop sign and a cross
walk makes more difficult to back up traffic to get out of the building’s driveways.

Ms. Tapia mentioned that Public Works Director on Clayton City, David Christensing,
expressed that he was strongly opposed to install any stop signs or crosswalk at that location
since there was not warrant supporting those.

The Traffic Commission voted to deny the request.

3.Slow the speed of cars shortcutting through Lafon to get to Gay and on Gay Ave.

Representing this issue were Nancy Sachar (8044 Lafon Pl) and Joan Botwinick (511
Westview Dr).

Nancy and Joan suggested stop signs, slow signs, children at play signs, speed limit signs
and “horses” for traffic control since traffic is using Gay and Lafon Pl as a shortcut for Gay
Ave. The situation is worse these days due to constructions along Gay Ave.

The Traffic Commission voted to install “speed limit signs” at the intersection of Lafon and
Gay.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.

Minutes prepared by Mariela Tapia, Secretary of the Traffic Commission
V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2003\Minutes 11-12-03.doc
