Page 4
Traffic Meeting Minutes
October 13, 2004
________________________________________________________________________

Ms. Schiller mentioned that St. Louis Co is hesitant to make major changes along Delmar. The
best approach is to start with the small things.

Gail Miller asked if the accidents that have occurred along Delmar between North&South and Old
Bonhome during the last few years have been recorded. Residents have heard about cars running
over front yards, cars crashing stop signs and mail boxes, etc.

One reason to maintain the crosswalk at Center is the bus stops just east of Center on both sides of
the street.

Ms. Schiller stated that traffic lights and stop signs are not used to control speed but traffic flow.
They will just impede traffic flow. There are traffic signals on Old Bonhomme and North and South.
Traffic counts will not be useful.

Ms. Schiller recommended getting the trees trimmed and adding flashing yellow lights. Also it was
recommended that reflectors on the pavement be installed to make the crosswalk more visible and
the lumens on the street lights be upgraded to make them brighter.

Ms. Welsch mentioned another project like striping the pavement on Delmar west of Hanley and
adding a white line for parking.

Another resident mentioned that there is a lot better chance to see the pedestrian if it was
prohibited to park 100 feet from the curb on each corner.

Police agreed with the recommendation to upgrade the street lights and to install a flashing yellow
light.

The Traffic Commissioners voted unanimously to recommend the following:
?
Move the crosswalk from the west side of the intersection of Delmar and Center to the

east side of the intersection
?
Install reflectors in the crosswalk pavement to make it more visible for the motorists

in both directions.
?
Trim the trees along Delmar

?
Add the flashing caution light to “crosswalks ahead” signs for crosswalks at Center

and in front of the Synagogue

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.

Minutes prepared by Mariela Tapia, Secretary-Traffic Commission. This meeting was recorded.
V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2004\Minutes 10-13-04.doc
