Page #5-MINUTES
TRAFFIC MEETING-11/9/05

Ms. Schafer responded that at the time, Ms. Kolsky’s request was provided for
th
review and comments. October 27 was not the regular date for traffic meetings it
was changed as an exception due to Jewish holidays.

The final comment from the commissioners is that they are concerned about the
safety, if a safety problem really exists. Commissioners indicated that the safety of
the crosswalk on Midland is not more critical that the safety of any other signalized
crosswalk. They are not sure if a “left turn on left arrow only” will be a solution for
this specific matter. Even if this request is implemented, the cars traveling
westbound on Delmar, turning right on Midland will not have any restrictions.

8.Removal of Sections of Delmar Blvd. and Kingsland Ave. from the St. Louis County

Arterial Road System

The Traffic Commissioners reviewed the letters from the County expressing their
wish of removing Delmar Blvd. (from Big Bend to the city limits of St. Louis) and
Kingsland Ave. (from Delmar Blvd. to Vernon Ave.) from the Saint Louis County
arterial road system and maintenance will become the responsibility of the City of
University City. They also reviewed the memorandum regarding City maintenance
of County Roads.

The Commissioners commented that the City should not take responsibility for those
arterial roads.

9.New crosswalk to be installed at the intersection of North&South Road and Amherst

Commissioners are not in favor of marking crosswalks in the pavement, in the
middle of the block if there are no extra elements (flashing beacon) that call
attention to the crosswalk. This issue is tabled until the December meeting.

C. FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES:

c.1. Traffic Speeding on Teasdale Ave. between Hanley Road and Bemiston
Speed signs were installed on Teasdale. No additional comments are provided at
this time.

c. 2. Delmar Loop Crosswalks
Crosswalks were removed by County. No additional comments are provided at this
time.

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:15 p. m.

Minutes prepared by Mariela Tapia, Traffic Commission Secretary

V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2005\Minutes 11-9-05.doc
