Moment of Silence for Police Sgt. Michael King

Commissioner Patterson requested a moment of silence to mourn the death of our Police Sgt.
Michael King who was shot and killed in the line of duty while sitting in a police vehicle in the area of
Delmar and Leland, at about 10:20 pm, Friday, October 31, 2008. Sgt. Michael King was 50 years
old and he honorably and loyally served our City for half of his life (25 yrs). He served faithfully as
the Police Department’s representative to the Traffic Commission. Sgt. King leaves to mourn a
loving wife and parents. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family at this difficult time.

2. Restrict parking on one side of Northmoor Dr, from 7045 to 7117 and Asbury Ave to the
west city limit.

Commissioner Patterson introduced the item by saying the request to prohibit parking on Northmoor
between Manhattan and Asbury was discussed by the commission during October’s meeting. At
the October meeting, it was requested that the parking restrictions between 7045 and 7117 North
moor and from Asbury to the west city limits be considered. Therefore, on November 5, 2008 Public
Works distributed notices, notifying residents of the request for restricted parking and inviting them to
November’s meeting.

Commissioner Patterson said this issue was initially raised in 2007 by the Fire Department because
of their inability to adequately travel on the street when needed to provide emergency services. The
Sanitation Division of the Public Works Department has reported that it is extremely difficult for the
trash trucks to navigate along Northmoor. The Public Works Street Division has reported that it is
difficult for snow plowing when cars are parked on both sides of the street. When this issue was
brought up in 2007, the majority of the residents expressed strong opposition to the proposal of
restricting parking on the street.

Minutes – November 12, 2008 Page
1
