<br />Meeting Minutes – University City Green Practices Committee <br />April 13, 2011 <br />Location:University City Hall, Second Floor Conference Room <br />Attendees: Jerry Breakstone, Linda Fried, Lynnette Hicks, Donna Leach-Heimos, Tim Michels, Jeffrey <br />Mishkin, Neville Rapp, Lois Sechrist <br />Absent: Lynn Ricci <br />Visitors: Alice Flores <br />1.Opening Round <br />a. <br />Neville discussed the open house/ block party for the seven new rain gardens in University City. <br />The event will be Sunday, May 15 from noon – 3 p.m. Linda will organize a table representing <br />the Green Practices Committee. Please let Linda know if you can work at the event. <br />b. <br />Tim met with the Mayor and the City Manager to propose language for an energy efficiency <br />ordinance for University City. The language is adapted from one prepared for the City of St. <br />Louis. The ordinance is expected to be handled by Community Development. <br />c. <br />Lois and Lynnette will collaborate on a brochure for the GPC that can be used at the May 15 event <br />as well as the Memorial Day University City Fair. Donna’s company has offered to print the <br />brochures in an 8-1/2 x 11, color tri-fold format. <br />d. <br />Linda requested that the GPC work with the Audubon Society Backyard initiative (what is the <br />formal name of this program?). She also attended the kickoff of the 10,000 Gardens Challenge: <br />http://governor.mo.gov/newsroom/2011/Governor_and_First_Lady_encourage_gardening_across_Missouri <br />_with_10_000_Gardens_Challenge_program <br />e. <br />Lois gave an update on Earth Day St. Louis’ event in Forest Park on April 17, as well as recent US <br />Green Building Council activities. <br />f. <br />Donna gave a report on the St. Louis County “Green and Growing” event on sustainable planning, <br />also attended by Neville and Lynnette. <br />g. <br />Donna reported on a sustainable gardening class that will be offered by Missouri Botanical <br />Garden: June 3, 2011: 2 p.m. Shoenberg Theater. For more information call (314) 577-5154. <br />h. <br />Alice Flores discussed the University City tool library exchange and the idea of a free store. A <br />PDF of her document is attached. <br />i.Lynnette will attend the final FOCUS St. Louis/ Sustainable St. Louis/ USGBC “Sustainable <br />Communities” workshop on April 19. The topic is “Sustainable Waste Management”. The <br />seminar will be at the Great Rivers Research & Education Center at Lewis & Clark Community <br />College. <br />j.The GPC will not staff a table at the University City Fair on Memorial Day weekend. Not enough <br />people will be available to work at the event.We will give our brochures to another group to hand <br />out on our behalf. <br />2.Administrative items: <br />a.The March 2011 minutes were approved as revised: Strike item 1.d.i <br /> <br />
