RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />RE~OLUTION OPPOSING PROPOSITION B - CARRYING <br />OF A CONCEALED FIREARM TO BE PRESENTED ON <br />STATEWIDE BALLOTS ON APRIL 6, 1999 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS;, the citizens of University City enjoy a high quality of life by maintaining a <br />peaceful and orderl,, community; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, passage of a concealed firearms law will place untold numbers of <br />University City citi~ ens at physical, psychological and financial risk due to the lack of law <br />enforcement trainin,,.;, ;yeaports handling training, use of force legal training, and exposure to <br />trauma associated w ith violent encounters, increased insurance premiums, risk of expensive and <br />time consuming, wr,~ngful injury and death law suits; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the passage of a concealed firearms law would create opportunity for the <br />commission of both :riminal and unintentional acts that would, with the potential for lethal <br />consequences, comp 'omise public safety and the safety of police officers; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Missouri Police Chiefs Association and the St. Louis County Municipal <br />League have taken a 9osition in opposition to Proposition B; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is appropriate and necessary for the Mayor and City Council of the City <br />of University City on behalf of the community and its residents to promote continued quality of <br />life, <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF UNIVER~,ITY CITY AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1. The Mayor and City Council of the City of University City support the <br />Missouri Police Chiet; Association and the St. Louis County Municipal League position <br />opposing any eflbrt to relax Missouri State Law regarding the carrying of concealed firearms by <br />the general public. <br /> <br /> SECTION 2.
