RESOLUTION – 2006 - 1 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The matter of Proposition U, authorizing a sales tax for economic development purposes, was <br /> <br />considered. <br /> <br /> After a review and general discussion of the matter Councilmember <br />offered the following resolution and moved its adoption. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED: That the Council of the City of University City, Missouri, finds and declares as <br />follows: <br /> <br />1. On May 22, 2006, by Ordinance No. 6634, the City Council imposed a sales tax at the rate of <br />one-fourth of one percent on all retail sales made in the City of University City, Missouri, which <br />are subject to taxation under Chapter 144 RSMo, for economic development election was called <br />and ordered to be held in University City on August 8, 2006, for the purpose of submitting to the <br />qualified voters of University City Proposition U, which stated as follows: “Shall the City of <br />University City, Missouri impose a sales tax at the rate of one-fourth of one percent for economic <br />development purposes?” <br /> <br />2. Said election was held on August 8, 2006, and the Official Results have been certified by the <br />Board of Election Commissioners of St. Louis County, Missouri. The Official Results show that <br />Proposition U passed, with 3,461 votes in favor and 1,829 votes against. Attached and <br />incorporated herein by reference is a copy of the Official Results. <br /> <br />3. Section 67.1305.c RSMo provides that if a majority of votes are in favor of the proposition, then <br />the tax shall become effective on the first day of the second calendar quarter following the <br />calendar quarter in which the election was held. Therefore, the tax shall become effective on <br />January 1, 2007. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Official Results of the election on Proposition U are hereby accepted <br />and Proposition U is hereby declared passed. <br /> <br />BE IT ADDITIONALLY RESOLVED: That the sales tax imposed by Ordinance No. 6634 and authorized by the <br />voters shall become effective on January 1, 2007, as provided in Section 67.1305.3 RSMo. <br /> <br />Motion seconded by Councilmember and carried. <br /> <br />th <br />Adopted this 18 day of September, 2006. <br /> <br />I hereby certify that the above is a true excerpt from the minutes of the meeting of the City Council held on the <br />th <br />18 day of September, 2006. <br /> <br /> <br /> ____________________________ <br /> City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
