Ke:S (2/205

05-25

RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY.

WHEREAS, the Missouri Department of Transportation has proposed
. improvements to the Highway 40 I Interstate 64 corridor that are designed to bring the
. road to interstate standards; and,

WHEREAS, the construction of the planned improvements to Highway 40 I
Interstate 64, regardless of how the construction is accomplished, will significantly
impact several local communities, University City, Brentwood, Clayton, Frontenac,
Ladue, Maplewood, and Richmond Heights; and,

WHEREAS, the communities that will be affected by these planned
improvements are justifiably concerned about the severe impact the construction project
will have on the character of their local communities and their citizens; and,

WHEREAS, the Missouri Department of Transportation is considering fully
closing the 12 mile Highway 40 I 1-64 corridor during construction; and,

WHEREAS, such full closure of 1-64 will cause dangerously increased traffic on
local arterial roads resulting in massive traffic congestion, increased road maintenance
expense, and noise and air pollution in local communities; and,

WHEREAS, such full closure of 1-64 will dramatically increase Police and Fire
emergency response times, thereby placing the health and safety of the citizens at
increased risk; and,

WHEREAS, such full closure of 1-64 will undermine the economic strengths of
the corridor cities.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
UNIVERSITY CITY, AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. The Council concludes that the full closure of Highway 40 I 1-64
conflicts with the quality of life expectations and priorities of the residents and businesses
along the highway corridor in the City of University City.
