Appendices
APPENDIX A: Glossary of Terms:
v, iv
Biodiesel -
Biodiesel is the name of a clean burning alternative fuel produced from domestic,
renewable resources. It contains no petroleum, but can be blended at any level with petroleum

diesel to create a biodiesel blend.
Calendar Year -
The time period from January 1 through December 31.
Carbon Dioxide (CO) -
The most common of the six primary GHGs, consisting of a single
2
carbon atom and two oxygen atoms, and providing the reference point for the GWP of other

gases. (Thus, the GWP of CO is equal to 1).
2
Ccf -
An American standardunit of measurement that stands for 100 cubic feet. This unit is
commonly used in the billing of natural gas and water for residences. One “Ccf” is equivalent to
748 gallons of a liquid.
COequivalent (COe) -
The universal unit for comparing emissions of different GHGs
2 2

expressed in terms of the GWP of one unit of carbon dioxide.Essentially the effects of other
greenhouse gases are converted into the equivalent amount of metric tons of carbon dioxide.
Direct Emissions -
Emissions from sources within the reporting entity’s organizational
boundaries that are owned or controlled by the reporting entity, including stationary combustion
emissions, mobile combustion emissions, process emissions, and fugitive emissions. All direct
emissions are Scope 1 emissions, with the exception of biogenic CO emissions from biomass
2
combustion.
Double Counting -
Two or more reporting entities taking ownership of the same emissions or
reductions.
2010-2011 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory, City of University City, MO 38
