In <br />the absence of Carol Wofsey, Jane Schaefer offered to record the minutes. <br /> <br />Guests Laura Ellen from MODOT and Tobi Moriarity from St Louis County Highway and <br />Traffic Department were introduced. <br /> <br />Patrick Owens discussed the roles of the steering committee, the task force, the City of <br />University City, Trailnet, and H3 Studio in developing the master plan. John Hoal from H3 <br />Studio asked how all of us arrived at the meeting. Most people drove, only two rode bicycles <br />although Centennial Commons is centrally located in our city. One explanation is that our city <br />has no marked bike lanes. Our plan has to reflect how we can facilitate a solution. We have an <br />opportunity to improve our community. <br /> <br />Tim Breihan gave everyone a handout which listed consensus issues and consensus ideas with a <br />map. We were asked to make notes on our handouts and hand them in at the end of the <br />presentation. We are at the end of Phase I of the planning process and we are working on Phase <br />II. In July we will have our vision, goals, and principals described. In August we will have our <br />Master Plan Options and our Final Hearing is in November or December. <br /> <br />Tim described the Stakeholder Interviews. Comments from these interviews are assembled on <br />the handout. Sarah pointed out that most participants were from Ward I. John Hoal said we need <br />wide participation in decision making. <br /> <br />Tim presented an analysis of University City topography. Our city has a 160 foot elevation <br />change and is bisected by the River des Peres. Our gridded street pattern offers potential for <br />better connectivity throughout the city. Arterial roads offer little opportunity for bike traffic or <br />for kids walking to schools, but there are alternatives. There are barriers where we have private <br />subdivisions and Washington University. These need to be mapped into the plan.
