She thinks they were supposed to be bought out by the
thth
end of last week around August 4, so maybe by August 11 all the remaining properties will have
closed. The City will buy out 26 properties.
b.Donna congratulated Joe Heneberry on his new job in Chicago.

c.Lynnette reported that the City is working on coordinating an Electronics Recycling Event in

University City. A list of acceptable electronics has not been collected. The event is scheduled for
th
Saturday, November 5. We are with a company who will properly destroy hard drive information
and handle the on-site logistics. The company will remove electronics from cars, take it away and
process the items. University City is hosting the event. Information will soon be available online; it has
not been posted yet because things are still coming together. Just wanted to let the Green Practices
members know about the event and that the City will be requesting volunteers for the event.
University City high school will probably be contacted for volunteers. Event information will be
available on the U City website, Twitter, Facebook and a mailing to residents will go out during early
September in trash bills. Brandon will include the event information on the City newsletter that he
puts together.
2.Administrative items:

a.Donna reported that we are not a full Committee this evening.

b.The May 11, 2011 and July 13, 2011 minutes were reviewed and approved.

3.Green Practices Commission Update

a.Donna reported that Monday night, we are officially a Commission and approved by the Council

100%. All the applications are in and they are being dealt with by the City Council. We will be
announced in the August 22 Council meeting. It will be seven names of the members that will be
announced to be on the Green Practices Commission. Joe Heneberry congratulated the members
who are present. Officially the names have not been announced. This is a transitional meeting, we are
here doing our work, but officially we have not been announced. According to the rules and
regulations that Council has set forth now, all Commissions and Committees will be multiples of
seven, so there will be seven names announced. There will be one or two that will not be announced
as official Commission members. That does not mean that they cannot attend, but we will need
another block of seven names to go from 7 to 14 members. Unless the Council has any revisions.
b.Donna reported that one thing brought up in the Council meeting that although it is not directly our

responsibility, but it may be something we probably will work on like that in the future is the property
at 8390 Delmar Boulevard which will be a brand new Walgreens store and also a 30,000 square foot
office building behind it that was approved by Council. The Plan and Traffic Commission approved the
plans unanimously. There were some in-house questions that did not make the agendas in time to do
anything. Donna spoke with the chairman of the Plan Commission and they did take into
consideration a lot of green practices for this area, but Walgreens is a very strict and highly
www.ucitymo.org
