MEETING DATE: October 23, 2006

AGENDA ITEM TITLE: Ordinance – Residential Truck Parking

AGENDA SECTION: NEW BUSINESS

CAN THIS ITEM BE RESCHEDULED? : Yes

BACKGROUND REVIEW: Ordinance amends chapter 10.40 enacting a new section to be known as “section
10.40.210 parking trucks and commercial vehicles prohibited - exceptions;” thereby amending said section so as
to permit the parking of trucks up to 6,000 lbs. gross vehicle weight on residential streets and alleys. This
eliminates all remaining requirements to obtain a permit-parking sticker, which currently costs $25 and is valid for
the life of the vehicle, and thereby makes it no longer necessary to have a sticker to park a noncommercial truck
on a street. The requirements, which this bill eliminates, are as follows:

1. It is registered as the personally owned vehicle at the University City residence of the applicant.
2. It is not a commercial vehicle (Note that commercial vehicles are still generally prohibited under subsection B.)
3. It does not contain added vertical side extensions, any visible load other than a permanent small locked
container, or any indication of a product or service of delivery, in the truck bed while parked.
4. It has a tailgate (if any) secured in an upright position (except when loading or unloading).
5. It contains no self-contained camping unit.
6. It has no more than two wheels per axle.
7. It is parked in the immediate vicinity of the place of residence of the registered owner.
8. It does not exceed six and one-half feet (6 1/2') in height (including accessories) or eighteen feet (18') in length.
9. There is a current City truck permit-parking sticker lawfully issued to the truck and affixed to the left side of its rear

window.
