MEETING DATE: October 23, 2006

AGENDA ITEM TITLE: Ordinance – Dog Park

AGENDA SECTION: NEW BUSINESS

CAN THIS ITEM BE RESCHEDULED? : No

BACKGROUND REVIEW: The University City Dog Park is leased to a non-profit group which manages the park
and charges dues to cover the cost of maintenance. We collect the fees and pass them on to the organization.
We currently charge $80 for the first non-resident dog and $25 for the second. Of this fee, the city keeps $25 on
the first dog and $5 on the second. In order to make the park more accessible and to keep pace with the
competition they are facing from other local dog parks that have opened since we last adjusted our fees
(Maplewood, Kirkwood, South City and others), the board voted to reduce the non-resident fee from $80 to $50.
This is still 2.5 times the resident fee of $20 and gives residents a much better deal than non-residents. The
change will not impact the amount the city collects for the non-resident dogs the (name of the group) will receive

$30 less for the non-resident dogs.
