<br />CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITYCOUNCIL <br />STUDY SESSION <br />Fifth floor of City Hall, 6801 Delmar <br />September 12, 2011 <br /> <br />The Council Study Session was held on the fifth floor of City Hall on Monday, September <br />12, 2011. Mayor Welsch called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. In addition to the Mayor <br />the following members of the Council were present: <br /> <br />Mr. Glickert <br />Ms. Lynn Ricci <br />Mr. Terry Crow <br />Mr. Stephen Kraft arrived at 6:10 P.M. <br /> <br />Mr. Sharpe and Mr. Price were excused. <br /> <br />At the Council’s study session Great Rivers Greenway provided an overview of its plan for <br />trails throughout University City. In addition, the City’s auditor, Schowalter & Jabouri, gave <br />a brief introduction of their firm and how they will handle the auditing duties for the City. <br /> <br />Great River Greenway provided a slide presentation. When completed the Centennial <br />Greenway will link parks, business districts, high schools and community centers throughout <br />University City and the region. The University City project consists of four areas. The west <br />project is from Creve Coeur Park to I-270. The Central project is Olive Blvd to the I-170 <br />interchange. The North/South segment will follow the Metro Corridor along I-170. The east <br />project will be from Forest Park to Ackert Walkway. Sidewalks will be extended in the <br />Washington University area to accommodate foot and bicycle traffic. The area will also will <br />have blue light safety phones and security cameras funded by Washington. The project has <br />created nine additional parking spaces at Loop South. At the Delmar intersection they have <br />created build-outs to minimize the crossing distance and added a fully functional stop light <br />but will lose three parking spaces in so doing. They are considering a re-alignment from the <br />original route to run along Wilson Avenue where the flooded properties were, when they are <br />purchased and demolished, completion date to be in 2012. The next step of the route, after <br />the completion of the re-alignment along Wilson would be from Heman Park to U. City High <br />School. <br /> <br />Questions asked. <br /> <br /> Security. Will the blue lights and cameras be throughout the Greenway? Presently <br />it is only planned at the site located on Washington U. <br /> <br /> Who maintains the trees around the Chuck Berry statue as it appeared some will not <br />survive. There is a landscaper’s one-year guarantee on the trees. They are being <br />watched and will be replaced if needed. <br /> <br /> Council asked when the Great Rivers Greenway meetings were held and if they <br />could be notified. The Great Rivers Greenway Board meets on the second Tuesday <br />of each month at 6174 Delmar. <br /> <br />The next step for the Centennial Greenway is work on the segement from Shaw Park in <br />Clayton to Olive Boulevard. <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
