<br />RESOLUTION 2006 - 1 <br />PROPOSITION U <br /> <br />The matter of Proposition U, authorizing a sales tax for economic development <br />purposes, was considered. <br /> <br />After a review and general discussion of the matter Councilmember offered the <br />following resolution and moved its adoption. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED: That the Council of the City of University City, Missouri, finds <br />and declares as follows: <br /> <br />1. On May 22, 2006, by Ordinance No. 6634, the City Council imposed a sales <br />tax at the rate of one-fourth of one percent on all retail sales made in the <br />City of University City, Missouri, which are subject to taxation under Chapter <br />144 RSMo, for economic development election was called and ordered to be <br />held in University City on August 8, 2006, for the purpose of submitting to <br />the qualified voters of University City Proposition U, which stated as follows: <br />"Shall the City of University City, Missouri impose a sales tax at the rate of <br />one-fourth of one percent for economic development purposes?" <br /> <br />2. Said election was held on August 8, 2006, and the Official Results have <br />been certified by the Board of Election Commissioners of St. Louis County, <br />Missouri. The Official Results show that Proposition U passed, with 3,461 <br />votes in favor and 1,829 votes against. Attached and incorporated herein <br />by reference is a copy of the Official Results. <br /> <br />3. Section 67.1305.c RSMo provides that if a majority of votes are in favor of <br />the proposition, then the tax shall become effective on the first day of the <br />second calendar quarter following the calendar quarter in which the election <br />was held. Therefore, the tax shall become effective on January 1,2007. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Official Results of the election on Proposition U <br />are hereby accepted and Proposition U is hereby declared passed. <br /> <br />BE IT ADDITIONALLY RESOLVED: That the sales tax imposed by Ordinance No. <br />6634 and authorized by the voters shall become effective on January 1, 2007, as <br />provided in Section 67.1305.3 RSMo. <br /> <br />Motion seconded by Councilmember Glickert and carried. <br />Adopted this 18th day of September, 2006. <br /> <br />I hereby certify that the above is a true excerpt from the minutes of the meeting of the <br />City Co '1 held 0 h day of September, 2006. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />. ~ . . . <br /> <br />,': :-:::..'\ <br />." > ~ \ <br /> <br />-- " _. ~ <br /> <br />./ ---:;. <br /> <br />....... .. <br />
