REQUIRED LIABILITY INSURANCE AMOUNT; CONTAINING A SAVINGS

CLAUSE AND PROVIDING A PENALTY.

Mr. Price said that the police report showed that the pit bull dog bites were 8 out of
12 dog bites reported. He said that these dogs are used by the drug dealers.

CITIZEN COMMENTS
Christine Lewis, 830 Westrun Dr.
Ms. Lewis showed pictures of her family’s pit bull dogs with her children. She said it is
unfair to single out of this breed from other large breeds that can also be trained to be
aggressive.

Elizabeth Wainwright, 7204 Dartmouth
Ms. Wainwright who works professionally with all breeds of dogs said she has several
concerns about this bill. A pit bull is not the most dangerous dog out there now. There are
other dangerous breeds weighing 200 or more pounds. She would prefer that the Council
establish an ordinance that addresses the type of behavior instead of outlawing one breed
of dogs. She has seen that the drug dealers are no longer using pit bull dogs for
protection in their sales but are using instead much larger breeds now.

Mr. Price said that he would like to see a bill passed dealing with dangerous animals.

Ms. Ricci said that Ms. Wainwright has supplied her with other cities’ excellent legislation
dealing with dangerous animals and would review them for presentation and discussion in
a future study session.

CITIZEN COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS
Tracy Norfleet, M.D., 1110 E. Parkedge Ln
Dr. Norfleet had several questions about replacement of the finance director.

Donna Leach-Heimos, 7700 Amherst Ave.
Comment – Would like to donate the bows for the lions for the holidays.
Would like to know the progress of the commercial development of North & South at
Delmar. Mayor Adams said the City is waiting for the ground breaking of a Starbucks store
at this location.

COUNCIL COMMENTS
Ms. Brot invited anyone interested in the future uses for the City-owned Sutter Meyer
house (U City’s oldest home) to attend a meeting on November 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the
Library of Pershing School. She also asked staff to look into finding ways to fund a newly
established loan fund for people, for the purpose of paying for very expensive bills for
pruning and cutting down of diseased or damaged trees.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.

Joyce Pumm, City Clerk
