<br />Meeting minutes of the Board of Trustees for the University City Public Library for <br />November 9, 2011 <br /> <br />Attendance <br />Members Present: <br />Susan Glassman, Serena Jones, Joy Lieberman, Larry Nolan, <br />David Stokes, Beth Ostroff, Deborah Arbogast <br /> <br />Members Absent: <br /> William Baldwin, Luise Hoffman (excused) <br /> <br />City Council Liaison: <br />Steve Kraft <br /> <br />Library Staff: <br />Patrick Wall-Director, Christa Van Herreweghe <br /> <br />___________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />The meeting of the University City Public Library Board was called to order at 5:16 PM by <br />Larry Nolan, President <br /> <br />Minutes <br />The minutes from the October meeting were approved with corrections. <br /> <br />Correspondence <br />A thank you note was received from the State Library for IT grants and project management. <br />A note of complaint was received from a patron regarding perceived inadequate notice of fines <br />due. <br />Letter from Megan Meyer regarding a donation in honor of her mother. <br /> <br /> <br />Membership renewal campaign is underway and going very well. <br />The October 17 program featuring author Gerald Early was a great program and well received. <br />The Friends are attempting to set a date for a program with author Scott Phillips, as well as other <br />authors. <br />thst <br />Device Day will be held on the 14 and the 21 and is training on downloadable devices and is <br />being held in conjunction with the Friends. <br />The Muriel Helfman plaque will be purchased by the Friends. <br /> <br /> <br />(full report attached) <br /> <br />Circulation is reported to be down for October by 8% and MLC circulation is down 15% <br /> <br />The annual Administrative Report has been sent to City Hall <br /> <br />Kindle usage and privacy issues are discussed in an article, attached. Some of the issues: <br />Patrons do not know that Amazon, not the library, keeps records that may be used <br />for marketing <br />Consider a statement informing patrons that their information is being tracked <br />Brought up at MLC meeting and there was not much concern <br />Brentwood and Kirkwood libraries are going to lend out Kindles and Nooks <br /> <br />
