CITIZEN PARTICIPATION (continued if needed) <br /> <br />Donna Leach-Heimos, 7700 Amherst Avenue <br />Ms. Leach-Heimos added to what Mr. Price said relating to working with the schools <br />for recycling programs. She said that as the Chair of the Green Practices <br />Commission, she noted that the commission plans educational programs for working <br />with the school district. Ms. Heimos offered the commission’s assistance to work <br />with any Councilmember or person within the school district on recycling. <br /> <br />P. COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Mr. Crow said that he hopes everyone will join the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. <br />celebration, as Mr. Jennings stated earlier. He also noted that this weekend would <br />host the Ice Festival in the Loop. <br /> <br />Mr. Kraft said that the Supreme Court ruled that you cannot ban ownership of <br />weapons, but it is illegal in University City to discharge a weapon. He therefore <br />suggested that the City Attorney look to see if an ordinance could be presented that <br />would cover the use of bows and arrows. <br /> <br />Mayor Welsch said that she attended the Chamber of Commerce Reception on <br />th <br />January 4 at Level 2 and as Mr. Jennings said, Congressman Clay and Carnahan; <br />County Councilmember Dolan, Committee Women Irby; and a representative from <br />Senator McCaskill’s office were present. She said the Chamber of Commerce’s next <br />th <br />event will be January 12 and if anyone wanted additional information; it could be <br />found on University City Chamber’s website at www.universitycitychamber.com. <br />Mayor Welsch also said that she would be attending the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. <br />Celebration on Saturday with the parade beginning at 2:00 p.m. and the program to <br />follow. Mayor Welsch noted that she is looking for volunteers to work on the <br />committee for the seven movies in the park, coming up in 2012. She said the <br />movies would start in April and continue through October. Mayor Welsch noted she <br />is also putting together a Citizens’ Group, who will help choose the films that will be <br />shown. She will be working on raising the funds for the movie rental fees. The <br />Mayor is also looking for volunteers to work on the University City Notes Program, <br />which is a community musical showcase that will be held in October at the sanctuary <br />of the City of Life Christian Church on Fullerton. Lastly, Mayor Welsch said, the <br />Regional Initiative on Youth is now in the process of interviewing people that she <br />hopes will become members of the Regional Interim Executive Board. <br /> <br />Q.
