VERSION 2 <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: <br /> December 11, 2006 <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM TITLE: <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 2 OF THE UNIVERSITY <br />CITY MUNICIPAL CODE, RELATING TO ADMINISTRATION <br />AND PERSONNEL, BY ENACTING THEREIN A NEW <br />CHAPTER TO BE KNOWN AS “CHAPTER 2.41 ECONOMIC <br />DEVELOPMENT TAX BOARD”; CONTAINING A SAVINGS <br />CLAUSE AND PROVIDING A PENALTY. <br /> <br />AGENDA SECTION: <br /> New Business <br /> <br />CAN THIS ITEM BE RESCHEDULED? : <br />No <br /> <br />BACKGROUND REVIEW: <br />May 22, 2006, Council, by Ordinance No. 6634, placed a one <br />quarter of one percent retail sales tax on the August 8, 2006, ballot. The proposition known <br />as Proposition U, passed with 3,461 votes in favor and 1,829 votes against. The tax shall <br />become effective on January 1, 2007. The authorizing Mo. State Statute 67.1305 requires <br />the establishment of an Economic Development Tax Board. The attached ordinance <br />establishes and outlines the state requirements, term, and duties of the Board. The Mayor <br />will need to recommend five members and attribute respective terms to each at the January <br />8 meeting. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Motion to introduce, and place on January 8 agenda for second and <br />third reading. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
