Meeting Minutes –University CityGreen Practices Committee <br />April 12, 2012 <br />Page 2 <br />i.Lynnette to draft a response to the Mayor <br />ii.Since University City already has a Sustainability Strategic Plan, the Commission does <br />not see the need for the expense and work to conduct a survey. <br />f.Lighting Retrofit Projects <br />i.Lynnette issued a two page document. <br />ii.Informational, follow up from the meeting with the energy audit consultant. <br />iii.Cost savings are being documented, will be provided to the Commission. <br />iv.The City is requesting bids to purchase street lights from Ameren. Clayton has purchased <br />street lights from Ameren; Ballwin is studying the issue. A report will be issued by June. <br />4.New Business: <br />a.Lois to draft thank you letter to Donna Leach-Heimos. <br />b.Conflict of Interest Policy for Commission members <br />i.Lois and Lynnette will investigate policies of other Commissions; consult City lawyer if <br />needed. <br />c.Goal Setting Work Session <br />i.Recycling in the Loop (p 23 of the Sustainability Strategic Plan) <br />1.Comments: Use multi-bin containers; who pays for hauling (currently use private <br />haulers or pay University City); Coca-Cola has donated exterior recycling bins. <br />2.Need to investigate the current cost of recycling vs. cost of trash. <br />ii.Status of general recycling in University City <br />1.Have recycling in place, but no goals. <br />2.Establish baseline, set goals. <br />iii.Recommendations for goal setting <br />1.Use the goals already set, work within this framework <br />2.Look at existing document, see where it is deficient or incomplete, and discuss <br />howto proceed. <br />3.Need Residential and Commercial goals for Ecosystems & Habitat; Land Use/ <br />Parks/ Open Space sections. <br />4.Use existing document as is, accelerate selected priorities. <br />5.The document is OK as is. <br />6.Set up a Saturday work session to focus on goal setting. Use it to set up priorities <br />for goals already set as well as priorities to manage our process. <br />7.Need to set forth action plans for the City. <br />5.Closing Round: <br />a.Dianne will attend the City Sustainability Summit, Round 2 on May 8. This is a technical work <br />session. <br />b.Tim is a consultant to Armstrong, Teasdale law firm on their PACE program. <br />6.The meeting was adjourned at 8:00p.m. <br />
