Meeting Minutes –University CityGreen Practices Committee April 12, 2012 Page 2 i.Lynnette to draft a response to the Mayor ii.Since University City already has a Sustainability Strategic Plan, the Commission does not see the need for the expense and work to conduct a survey. f.Lighting Retrofit Projects i.Lynnette issued a two page document. ii.Informational, follow up from the meeting with the energy audit consultant. iii.Cost savings are being documented, will be provided to the Commission. iv.The City is requesting bids to purchase street lights from Ameren. Clayton has purchased street lights from Ameren; Ballwin is studying the issue. A report will be issued by June. 4.New Business: a.Lois to draft thank you letter to Donna Leach-Heimos. b.Conflict of Interest Policy for Commission members i.Lois and Lynnette will investigate policies of other Commissions; consult City lawyer if needed. c.Goal Setting Work Session i.Recycling in the Loop (p 23 of the Sustainability Strategic Plan) 1.Comments: Use multi-bin containers; who pays for hauling (currently use private haulers or pay University City); Coca-Cola has donated exterior recycling bins. 2.Need to investigate the current cost of recycling vs. cost of trash. ii.Status of general recycling in University City 1.Have recycling in place, but no goals. 2.Establish baseline, set goals. iii.Recommendations for goal setting 1.Use the goals already set, work within this framework 2.Look at existing document, see where it is deficient or incomplete, and discuss howto proceed. 3.Need Residential and Commercial goals for Ecosystems & Habitat; Land Use/ Parks/ Open Space sections. 4.Use existing document as is, accelerate selected priorities. 5.The document is OK as is. 6.Set up a Saturday work session to focus on goal setting. Use it to set up priorities for goals already set as well as priorities to manage our process. 7.Need to set forth action plans for the City. 5.Closing Round: a.Dianne will attend the City Sustainability Summit, Round 2 on May 8. This is a technical work session. b.Tim is a consultant to Armstrong, Teasdale law firm on their PACE program. 6.The meeting was adjourned at 8:00p.m.
