Green Practices Commission 6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 862-6767, Fax: (314) 863-9146 Approved 5-24-12(as revised) Meeting Minutes –University City Green Practices Commission April 12, 2012 Location:University City Hall, Lower Level EOC Room Attendees:Dianne Benjamin, Lynnette Hicks, Tim Michels (via phone), Jeffrey Mishkin, Neville Rapp, Lois Sechrist Absent:Jerry Breakstone,Lynn Ricci 1.Opening Round: a.Tire recycling event May 19 at Pagedale City Hall. b.First segment of Centennial bike trail is beginning construction. c.Washington University Center for Renewable Energy –Neville attended their open house. Lois could have the manager of the clean coal research group attend a future meeting. d.Be sure to participate in Earth Day activities on April 22. 2.Administrative items: a.The March 8, 2012minutes were approvedas amended. b.Next meeting date: May 10, 6:30 pm –7:30 p.m., University City Hall, Lower Level EOC Room. RSVP if you cannot attend so we can determine in advance if we will have a quorum. c.NOTE: Meeting changed to May 24. Begin at 6:00 p.m., meet for two hours. No new or old business. Focus entire time on goal setting work session. 3.Old Business: a.Green Practices Brochure i.Revised brochure was issued. Favorable comments, greatly improved. ii.“Neighborhood” logo should be larger, does not read well. iii.Approved to print a small batch –recycled paper, soy ink. iv.Include “City Hall is a LEED certified building”under the City Hall buildingpicture. b.New Member Packet i.No changes. Approved to print on demand (as needed). c.Energy Ordinance i.Tim is comfortable with the Ordinance as written, which incorporates suggested changes. ii.Ordinance will show that University City is trying to establish and recognizewhat externalities costsociety. iii.Buildings must pay back in 20 years, including valuing C02 produced at $20/ton. Building is not approved for construction unless this is true. iv.City staff recommends that the ordinance should not include that it does not apply to private builders since right now it only applies to city buildings. v.The Commission approved to proceed.
