<br />UNIVERSITY CITYCOUNCIL <br />STUDY SESSION <br />5th floor of City Hall <br />6801 Delmar <br />May 29, 2012 <br /> <br /> <br />th <br />The City Council Study Session was held in the Chambers, 5 floor of City Hall on May 29, <br />2012. Mayor Welsch called the Study Session to order at 5:35 p.m. In addition to the <br />Mayor Shelley Welsch, the following members of the Council were present: <br /> <br />Ms. Paulette Carr <br />Mr. Arthur Sharpe, Jr. <br />Mr. Stephen Kraft. <br />Mr. Terry Crow <br />Mr. Michael Glickert <br />Mr. Price was excused. <br /> <br />Also in attendance were City Manager Lehman Walker; Library Director Patrick Wall, and <br />Library Board Chair Larry Nolan; Community Development Director, Andrea Riganti; and <br />Finance Director Tina Charumilind. <br /> <br />The Study Session was for FY 13 Budget presentations for University City Library, <br />Community Development/Parks, and Finance. <br /> <br />Library Director Patrick Wall and Library Board Chair Larry Nolan presented their Fiscal <br />Year 2013 Budget Proposal to the Council. It was noted the nine-member Library Board of <br />Trustees, appointed by the Mayor and the City Council, sets the Library’s policies, approves <br />its budget and appoints the Library Director. The Library Director hires and administers the <br />staff, develops the annual budget, initiates policy and reports to the Library Board of <br />Trustees. <br /> <br />Some goals for 2012-2013 were: <br /> <br /> Address floor settlement on first floor <br /> <br /> Continue to evaluate need for new HVAC equipment <br /> <br /> Begin furniture replacement in public areas <br /> <br /> Reduce wait-time for popular items by purchasing more copies <br /> <br /> Improve use of local media & social media <br /> <br /> Continue web-based mini-surveys <br /> <br /> Conduct large-scale community survey <br /> <br /> Replace upgrade wireless service <br /> <br /> Increase bandwidth <br /> <br /> Work with Loop Hub Project as a demonstration site <br /> <br /> Improve website <br /> <br /> Increase awareness of mobile applications <br /> <br /> Work with Municipal Library Consortium (MLC) & other library organizations in <br />resource sharing <br /> <br /> Offer timely and relevant programs for groups of all ages <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
