Mr. Smith made a motion to postpone a decision on the agenda item until further
information was gathered from the applicants in response to the questions posed during
the discussion. The motion was seconded by Ms. North. The motion was approved
unanimously.

3. Other Business
a. Update 2012 Annual Statewide Historic Preservation Conference

Mr. Greatens introduced Karen Bode Baxter, president of Missouri Preservation and
that she was in attendance to help further explain ways the HPC could assist in the
historic preservation awards for the conference in October.

Ms. Baxter provided a summary of the conference to be held in October including
events and location. She stated that there was always a workshop each year that dealt
with historic tax credits which brought in many professionals. She stated that on Friday
of the conference there was an awards ceremony over lunch. The awards are intended
for projects and/or people in University City who have influenced preservation efforts
within University City. She stated that what they are asking for is that the HPC come up
with a name for the awards.

Ms. Schmidt asked if the HPC was to name an award after somebody and then give
that award for a project.

Ms. Baxter stated that the award is to be named after that person. She stated that all
the awards are named for that person, the award is only given out one time, and all the
awards will carry
recognized for all their accomplishments, and then up to five awards will be given out
people who had done multiple projects. Sometimes it could be an organization that has
done a lot for preservation. She stated that there were no time constraints for when any
projects occurred. It could be an older project that helped start other projects. She
added that they liked to see a mixture of residential and commercial projects awarded.

Mr. Smith asked if the Commission was to reach out to organizations for nominations for
award titles and or actual awards.

Ms. Baxter stated that they could do both. She added that they have found that
commissions had a good sense of who had been important in preservation and it was
up to the commission.

Ms. Schmidt stated that the Commission had started some discussion about projects,
however, they had not discussed at all naming for the award. She added that she was
not fully comfortable naming a person for the award.

Ms. Baxter stated they had had occasions in which there were two names for the award.

Ms. Schmidt stated they could get information from Ms. Baxter tonight and have further
discussion. She added that the Commission should bring the Historical Society into the
910
Page of
