Session 1652, ~ Page 6
October 2, 1995

Ms. Mary Gannon, 7730 Burr Oak Iane, said apartment buildings in b~r area on
Wild Cherry ar~ Wild Plum had conditions r~cdirg attention--broken pavement,
refuse, broken glass, beer cans strewn about, broken screen doors, f~ in
poor repair, high weeds, etc. She appreciated receiving a quick response to
her letter fr~m the ad~ministr~tion but felt not enough was being done to get
the c~ners to maintain their properties. Mr. Adams agreed with her re~rks.

and r~ additi~mal lights. Mayor Majerus said a city employee with lighting
expertise will take a look to see what can be done.

MS. Sue Slater, 7543 Drexel, said parents of Jackson Park School students are
very upset because the crossing guard at Balson and Hanley was removed. She
said about 20 children (not three as stated in the justification for removing
tb~ guard) ~ this crossing and should be protected. Also, the 22 seconds
allowed for crossing was not enough time for small children. She sxggested
adding a one ce~t sales tax on business and entertainment in University City
to provide money for crossing guards and other school uses.

Mr. Larry Slater, 7543 Drexel, said a child's life is worth more than the
cost of a crossing guard; if a life is lost at this intersection, a ~ard
would be placed there immediately.

Mayor Majerus drew attention to a resolution which expresses the City Coun-
cil's support fc~ expansion of MetroLink on the 1-170 Cross County Corridor.
Mr. Adams moved approval. Mr. C~tton seconded the motion, and all voted Aye.

Mrs. Schuman thought perhaps an important resolution such as this might be
taken up earlier in the meeting when more people are present. Mr. Schoc~er
suggested changing the fbuncil operating rules to present resolutions and
proclamations before the City Manager's agenda. Mr. ~ so moved,
seconded by Mrs. Schuman. All voted Aye.

Mayor Majerus called attention to a proclamation which designates the week of
October 22-29, 1995, as Red Ribbon Week. Mr. Wagner moved approval. Mrs.
Tbxm~n seconde~ the motion, which carried unanimously.

BILL NO. 8225 - AM~gDING C~{~fER 34 ~3NICIPAL OODE BY (~%NGING THE CLASSIFI-
CATIC~ OF CERTAIN PRDPER~Y AT OR NEAR 1000 PENNSYLVANIA FRCM "PR-0" PIANNED
RESI~FFICE TO "GC" G~qERAL ~, AS SET FORPH IN SECTION 34-9
OF THE UNIVERSIT~ CITY ZONING CODE.
Bill No. 8225 was again deferred.

BILL NO. 8254 - Rf~FEWING AN EXISTING FRANCMISE AND GRANTING FOR A PERIOD OF
TEN YEARS TO LACIR~E GAS CCMPANY ~HE AUTHORITY TO OPERATE IN UNIVERSITY CITY
