He noted a survey on this t~pic was recently completed, and askS_ <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus opened the public hearing at 7:35 p.m. <br /> <br />Ma. l~oealyn Borg, 7820 COrnell, said she was dissatisfied with Continental's <br />service, its p~x3raam~/~ (should be more substantive, i.e., history channel, <br />C-Span 2 should be offered), and its rates. She felt the quality ban not in- <br />creased at the same rate as the cost, and she does not want to pay for chan- <br />nels she does not watch. She also does not want to pay in advance. <br /> <br />Mr. Virc~_es Ryland, 7461 Stanford, said b~ had many of the same concerns as <br />the previous s~, and wants to know why Continental does not offer as <br />many channels as other companies. <br /> <br />Ms. Lynda Ew~ll-Taylor, 7022 Canton, also felt that rates bm~ ~ fast- <br />er than services. As a subscriber to the complete cable package, including <br />p~-~¥.~um channels, she said at times there seemed to be little to watch. She <br />particularly felt more good movies should be shown. <br /> <br />Dr. Gerald S. Feit, 8232 Gannon, thought that rates should have been reduced <br />several years ago wb~_n Congress dere~a~ cable talevision; instead, h~ <br /> <br />premium channels, as well as trashy horror movies. In addition, he felt the <br /> <br />Ms. Vanessa Van Ornam, 502 Kingsland, #2S, proposed that a local weather <br />cb~nnel be added to the basic service package. Currently, only subscribers <br />paying for the standard service package have access to basic local weather <br />information. She said other area companies offer this service and felt this <br />information was important to all subscribers in planning their daily lives. <br /> <br />Ms. Alice Senturia, 7458 Gannon, regional counsel for International Ladies <br />Garment Workers Union and board member of Pro-Vote, said her group was sup- <br />porting Iaborvision, an educational program about working people that other <br />cable companies carry, but not Continental, which said it was too political. <br />Since Continental offers other political programs, she asked that they be <br /> <br />Mr. Sam Hack, 1060 Wilsh{re, also noted that a number of channels offeredby <br />other area companies are not offeredby Oontinental. H~ mentioned C-Span2, <br />History Channel, Bravo, Stars, Pay-per-viewmovies, etc. He felt Continental <br />was not a consumer-fri~y organization. <br /> <br />Ms. Elyane Jones, 7441 Stratford, French teacher at Washington University, <br />said students in University City are deprived of a service offered to other <br />French students by area cable companies. She said Continental did not even <br /> <br /> <br />
