Session 710, Hinutes
August 20, 1962

Page 28

ed to the Council (by a petition) and the City Nmnager said the administra-
tive forces are assembling this information, but it is not yet complete.

P~SICNAT~ON OF COUNCILNAN IRLB. BARIS:
Councilman Baris stated that several months ago he informed each member
of the Council, verbally, that he was planning to move from the City. He
said he did not submit a formal letter of resignation at that time because
he was not certain as to the exact time his new home would be completed;
however, this morning he was advised by the builders that they would be
in position to close the transaction for the purchase of the house this
coming Friday. Accordingly, Councilman Baris said, he would at this time
then formally submit his resignation as a member of the Council. Council-
man Baris stated that most of the time he has been on a minority side, but
being a member of the Council has been an interesting experience and it is
with a great deal of regret that he and his family are leaving the City.

Speaking on behalf of the Council, Mayor Kaufman accepted Councilman
Baris' resignation and stated that the Council has enjoyed his services
and Councilman Baris has undoubtedly made a substantial contribution to
the welfare of University City and it would be appropriate at this time
to request preparation of a Resolution. Councilman Tandler thereupon re-
quested that a Resolution be prepared. Each member of the Council then
expressed regret that Councilman Baris is leavin§ and extended best wishes
for happiness in his new home.

!l~ROVEI~.~ OF ORCHARD AVENUE:
Councilmss Tandler asked whether a special meeting is required to introduce
ordinances accepting the Orchard Avenue (proposed improvement) bids, where-
upon City Manager Henry explained that the information will be available
September 4th and the matter can then be considered at the next regular
meeting of the Council ~ich is scheduled for September loth.

PROPOSED ~MPROVEMENT OF BIG BEND AND CENTER DRIVE:
Mayor Kaufman asked the City Manager whether he could also have available
information on some of the other projects which require improvement - Big
Bend, Center Drive - and the Mayor inquired what schedule the administra-
tive forces have for those improvements coming through. The City Manager
said those improvements would have to be done next Spring - the Council
could set dates for hearings ~here they are required, whereupon Mayor
Kaufman suggested it might be well to get those out of the way so that
by Spring the Council can move forward. City Manager Henry concurred in
that view,

PROPOSED I~PROVEMENT OF FE~PLEVIEW DR~VE AND WESTVI~4DRXVE:
Councilman Tandler stated that the Council has held public hearings on
proposed improvement of Mapleview Drive and Westview Drive and he said he
thinks the Council should reach a conclusion. Mayor Kau/man pointed out
that the C~uncil is awaiting some information.

ADJOU1L~17~:
On motion of Councilman Baris, seconded by Councilman Grimm and unani-
mously carried, the meetin§ adjourned at 11:30 P.H. ~ani~
y__~..
