Mayor Welsch asked if there was still money set aside for the fire escape that was approved
several years previous. Finance Director Ms. Charumilind said there was money in the
reserves but not near enough.

Mr. Wilson asked that bike and walk trails be identified by a budget line item to allocate
money for their maintenance.

Mr. Glickert asked why there was a big jump in costs for street signs from this year to the
next year. Mr. Wilson stated he would like to be proactive and replace important signs
before they become too worn.

In conclusion Mr. Wilson stated that if the street budget was 1.2 million dollars it would take
twelve years to bring the City streets up to a good quality and the City could then do
preventive maintenance to keep them at the level of being in good shape. Sidewalks would
follow the same principal. Mr. Wilson said these were goals the City should be working
toward.

Mayor Welsch asked if the City had the money, how long would it take to bring the streets
and sidewalks up to a good standard. Mr. Wilson said by working diligently, it would take
approximately five years.

The study session was adjourned at 6:24 p.m.

Joyce Pumm, MRCC, MCC
City Clerk
4
