administration at Brittany Woods Middle School and by Mr. Michael Maclin in
administration at University City High School. Mr. Salamon suggested that
citizens talk to parents, students and visit the schools to see the positive
improvements in the University School system. He said they have made
significant strides in the school district and hoped the community would
appreciate it and support the bond issue in April.

Ms. Meg McClelland, 6265 Cates Avenue, #1E
Ms. McClelland spoke on behalf of the Proposition U2 Bond Issue. She said she
was co-chairing with Cindy Thierry in working towards the passage of the bond
issue. She gave highlights on how University City School District was improving
such as the district being one of the three predominantly African American school
districts in Missouri that was fully accredited. She also noted that the University
City School District was one of the only schools that used robotics at all three
levels in the State of Missouri. Ms. McClelland also mentioned other accolades
for the school district. She said University City School District had definitely
improved and they wanted to continue that momentum by passing the Proposition
U2 Bond Issue.

Ms. Linda Peoples, 1532 Parkway Drive
Ms. Peoples stated she was present in support of the resolution and the
upcoming bond issue that will be on the April ballot. She stated she agreed with
what Ms. McClelland stated. Ms. Peoples said she would like to continue all of
those positive things that have been started in the school district. She said that
when you look good, you feel good and when you feel good, you do well and they
want to continue to do well.

Mr. Stacy Clay, 1328 Midland Drive
Mr. Clay stated that he was in support of the resolution. He said the last
proposition, Proposition U for $53 million dollars helped with two new schools,
significant renovations at a number of schools, and updates to all schools; and
that works has come in on time and on budget. He also pointed out that the
school district received three accreditation points in 18 months, which was a feat
not attained by any school district. Mr. Clay said it was the purview of the board
of education to continue to ask the Superintendent to find operational efficiencies
because we know we are the stewards of the taxpayer’s dollars. He said
additionally, they pressed the Superintendent to continue pursuing academic
achievement; as they are not where they need to be, even though significant
growth has been made. Mr. Clay stated that the 19 million dollar bond issue
would allow them to continue the work that was under Proposition U. He noted
that many of the funds in the Proposition in U2 was devoted to rebuilding our high
school and making sure it was a safe and an environment conducive to learning.
Mr. Clay said it was with great thought and consideration that they would ask
taxpayers again to ratify a bond issue. He stated that by investing now while
interest rates were at their lowest, they were making repairs and updates that
needed to be made or happen anyway and they are taking advantage of the
historically low interest rates to save the community money in the long run. Mr.
Clay thanked Councilman Price and Councilman Sharpe for putting the resolution
forward.
3
