Trees and grates <br /> shall be installed at the expense of the developer. Upon acceptance of <br /> the trees and grates, the City will assume financial responsibility for <br /> maintenance. <br /> B. An acc eptable list of trees is included in the tree schedule. Trees should I <br /> be planted at a maximum spacing of 40 feet, subject to the approval of 1 <br /> the Director of Public Works. The trees should be aligned with new"or <br /> existing lights. Tree alignment and spacing shall be approved by the <br /> Director of Works. <br /> C. Balled and Burlap plants: Nursery grown trees dug with firm, natural balls of <br /> earth in which they were grown, with ball size not less than the diameter and <br /> depth recommended by ANSI Z60.1 for type and size of tree or shrub required; <br /> wrapped, tied, rigidly supported, and drum-laced as recommended by <br /> ANSI Z60.1. <br /> D. Tree Measurements: Measure according to ANSI Z60.1 with branches and <br /> trunks or canes in their normal position. Do not prune to obtain required sizes. <br /> Take caliper measurements 6 inches (150 mm) above original root ball for trees <br /> up to 4-inch (100-mm) caliper size, and 12 inches (300 mm) above ground for 4" <br /> caliper trees and larger sizes. Measure main body of tree for height and spread. <br /> E. Warranty. The Warranty Period for all plant material is for a period of one year <br /> from the date of Substantial Completion or as extended accordingly. The <br /> warranty period shall run concurrently with the successful maintenance period z <br /> established for each plant. <br /> Remove and replace all dead plant material immediately or within thirty (30) days <br /> of notification by the City. Replace any tree that is dying, scarred, damaged or <br /> that has lost its central leader or typical branch structure or in an unhealthy <br /> condition as determined by the Architect. The warranty period will begin anew t <br /> for each replaced tree and continue for a full one-year after each replacement. <br /> The contractor is to provide the Architect with a record plan that shows the <br /> replaced tree and the date of its replacement. All replacement plant material <br /> shall conform to the plant material requirements of the original plant and match <br /> the size and branching structure of other typical plants nearby. <br /> F. Grade: Provide only "Specimen" quality plant material of sizes and quantity <br /> complying with ANSI Z60.1 for type of plant material required. Collected plant <br /> material is strictly prohibited unless specifically requested on the drawings. All <br /> plant material of one species shall be of matching structure with similar size, <br /> height, and spread. Trees of a larger size may be used if acceptable by the <br /> Architect and at no additional cost to the Owner. Shade harvested Trees: Balled <br /> and burlap, with a straight trunk, well-balanced crown, a straight and strong <br /> central leader, of caliper size and branching height indicated, complying with <br /> ANSI Z60.1 for type of trees required. <br /> G. Gravel Mulch. 3/8" Pea Gravel, light grey color range. Submit samples for <br /> approval by Architect. Do not make substitutions: If specified gravel mulch is not <br /> obtainable, submit proof of non-availability to Architect together with proposal for <br /> use of equivalent material for review and acceptance by Architect. <br /> i <br /> i <br /> i <br />
