-A question was asked about whose responsibility it was to maintain the gates? It was stated that
it was currently as needed and that no responsibility had been assigned.

-It was stated that should be an issue also, to determine whose responsibility it should be to
maintain them.

Ms. Sue Rehkopf, archivist for the University City Historical Society, stated that when the lions
were replaced 20+ years ago, Washington University put together a recommendation for
continued maintenance, which was never done, possibly because responsibility was never
assigned. She stated that the Historical Society hired someone to examine them two years ago,
but it was many years behind.

-A question was asked about incorporating a reference to prior maintenance recommendations,
possibly included as part of the bid that a recommendation be submitted for continued
maintenance and that guidance be requested on future maintenance including funds required.

-A comment was made regarding the bronze conservation RFP one of the items in the scope of
work was to give the bronze a more historic appearance (statuary brown). However, the frieze at
the top should be different than the plaques at the bottom; the top should be greener. The scope
of work should be changed to reflect that distinction and recognize the two different shades
should remain intact.

Mr. Lai stated that the previous maintenance recommendations could be further researched and
incorporated into the background and added to the scope of work in order to be taken into
consideration.

4.b Public Comments

There were no public comments.

There was a brief discussion about the sale and potential redevelopment of Delmar-Harvard
School and if there were a proposal to demolish the building as well as when the HPC would get
involved in such a project. Staff pointed out that when a proposal was submitted, it would be
brought before the HPC.

5. Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 7:45 pm.
tm; E
