Resolution 2014 - 3 <br /> RESOLUTION FOR AUTHORIZING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A UNIVERSITY CITY <br /> ADVISORY BOARD ON WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY <br /> WHERAS, the City of University City is a first-tier suburb facing the same challenges and <br /> stresses of such inner-ring suburbs around the Country; and <br /> WHERAS, the City Council of the City of University City is committed to asking a proactive <br /> approach to dealing with these challenges and stresses; and <br /> WHERAS, these challenges and stresses will be lessened with a vibrant, healthy economic <br /> climate within University City; and <br /> WHERAS, the City of University City has a long tradition of working in collaboration with our <br /> community partners such as the University City School District, the Loop Special Business <br /> District, Parkview Gardens Association, the Chamber of Commerce and Washington <br /> University; and <br /> WHERAS, appropriate continued development in University City is in the best interest of its <br /> residents; and <br /> WHERAS, the City council of University City seeks to make sure the relationship between <br /> the City and Washington University is of maximum benefit to all parties, and is not to the <br /> detriment of ether party; and <br /> WHERAS, by the laws of the State of Missouri, many of Washington University's properties <br /> in University City are tax exempt; and <br /> WHERAS, continued development and redevelopment can be more beneficial to our <br /> community when proposed projects address the need for additional public safety resources, <br /> additional public works resources, additional capital infrastructure improvements, parking <br /> resources, revenue responsibility and quality of life issues for existing residents; and <br /> WHERAS, the City of University City has a long tradition of turning to its residents and <br /> property owners for advise and guidance in areas of concern to it the city; and <br /> WHERAS, the City of University City has among its residents and business community <br /> experts in the field of Economic Development, land use, tax policy zoning and community <br /> investment; and <br /> WHERAS, the City of University City also has non-resident property owners who are, also, <br /> experts in the field of Economic Development, land use, tax policy, zoning and community <br /> investment; and <br /> WHERAS, many of these residents and property owners have expressed a willingness to <br /> volunteer their services, expertise and advice to advance an open dialog to discuss <br /> Page 1 of 3 <br />
